I’ll start off with the obvious – both Uber and Lyft abuse their drivers. If you want proof just investigate Rideshare Professor’s YouTube channel. I’m well aware of everything he has to say. And I still miss the interaction with my riders. To be clear, I don’ t trust the current crop of riders to save my life. It is way, WAY too easy for a rider to accuse me of some kind of malfeasance for me to be driving right now. I have a dashcam, pay scrupulous attention to the current rules and abide by them absolutely and that’s still not enough for the rideshare companies should somebody file a complaint. My evidence could (and probably would) be overwhelming and *I* would still be the one without rides and a job.
And yet…
And yet…
And yet…
I miss the driving. I miss interacting with riders. My mind’s eye is taking me all over Southern California; from Pasadena to Laguna Hills to LAX to Huntington Beach. The lure for me was never knowing where I would end up after any single ride request. My mind’s eye, absent actual rides, has been working overtime, putting me in places I haven’t been in maybe years.
